If you have a little girl, you probably have read the "Fancy Nancy" books. Nancy loves to dress up in fun and creative ways. Mea reminds me of her. Sometimes she picks darling outfits....sometimes they are interesting. Needless to say, she knows what she wants to wear that day and how she wants her hair styled. Her favorite styles are curly (the Ariel look), braids, and the updo we call "Tinkerbell." Even though she loves to dress up, do make-up, and play with dolls, she loves to wrestle, play in the dirt, learn about dinosaurs, and catch bugs. She keeps us on our toes.

Books...a Bead...the Doctor
What do books, a bead, and the doctor all have in common? Mea! She turned yesterday into quite the adventure. It all started at the library. We went for story time and to check out our weekly supply of books. It was time to go so we walked over to the checkout counter and I saw Mea pick up a small white looking bead. Not thinking anything of it, I begin to check out the books. Within seconds Mea starts crying "get it out! It hurts!" I turned around. "What hurts?" I asked. "My ear. Get it out of my ear!" "What is in your ear Mea?" I questioned. "The bead in my ear. Get it out!" She screamed.
Great, I thought. What do I do now? I quickly grabbed her and left the library. Nick was in class, but I needed to get a hold of him. Just then he called my phone....answer to my prayers. We met him at home and he checks her ear. Yep, way in the depths he can see a white looking bead, a little smaller than a popcorn seed. We call the doctor's office who tell us that we may have to go to the emergency room, but they would have a nurse call us back. After talking with the nurse, she decided that they would try to flush it out with a water pick so we make an appointment. The earliest one they have avaliable is 2 1/2 hours away. Mea is not acting bothered anymore by the bead so we make the appointment.
For the next 2 1/2 hours I am constantly checking inside her ear to see if it is still there or if I can get it to roll out. Nothing works...so we head to the doctor. Everyone knew who we were...."oh, is she the one with a bead in her ear?" We even had a nurse ask if she could watch the doctor while he tried to take it out. At first he didn't know if he could get it. We laid Mea on the table and he used what looked like long tweezers. After two tries and Mea crying hysterically, he got it out! I was relieved! It ended up being a small circular piece of styrafoam wedged deep inside her ear. I should have kept it for a picture....but I thought it was too weird to ask the doctor if I could have the waxy covered ball.
Mea was glad to have it out and told me she will not stick anything else in her ear! I think she learned her lesson. I hope today doesn't bring any crazy adventures....I have a lot of housework to do!
